ghd ‘Style Squad’ for 2013/14 announced after intense two-day audition process

Cult styling brand ghd has announced its new ‘Style Squad’ for 2013/14 after an intense two-day audition process held at the ghd studio in Soho, London.

ghd ‘Style Squad’ is a group of hungry young stylists who are talented at styling, confident in presenting and big fans of the brand. To choose the next squad, a shortlist of 45 stylists from around the country were invited to ghd’s Soho studio to audition. Each was asked to reproduce their favourite look from London Fashion Week (February season) using a model and moodboard to bring it to life. They then had a one-to-one interview with a judging panel, which this year included ghd creative director and session stylist Zoe Irwin; former London Hairdresser of the Year and Fellowship Chancellor Karine Jackson and former FAME team member and Clubstar mentor Leah Walton.

Supporting them were Lorna Moore – ghd senior educator and style squad mentor – and Jo Robertson, head of ghd UK & ROI education, who was thrilled with the quality of the presentations. “The standard this year was really high” she said. “We were so impressed with the work the guys had put into their preparation and the passion they showed on the day.”

Fellow judge Karine Jackson agreed: “What a fantastic day we had – so much young talent in one place! Nerves were definitely running high, but the standard of the presentations was superb. There were so many applicants that really shone and we did find it very tough to choose our finalists. It’s such a great initiative and the ghd Style Squad team will have an amazing year. I just wish I’d had the same chance when I was their age!”

The ghd Style Squad will kick off their year next month (June) with a Zoe Irwin mentoring day and will then be involved in a variety of ghd projects, including the chance to work backstage at LFW in September.

“At ghd we are committed to nurturing young talent and the Style Squad is a great way to make this happen,” added Jo Robertson.
