Look gorgeous, love George's

Star in the Making: Chris gets into the F.A.M.E. Team

Chris Appleton of George’s Hairdressing, Leicester has been awarded membership of the prestigious Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence or F.A.M.E. Team 2009.

Chris is one of the successful four team members who had to go through arduous and testing tasks from an original line up of 24 who were whittled down to 14 for the final two stages held at Salon International last month. The lucky finalists were recently announced at the Fellowship luncheon, which was held at the Dorchester Hotel London.

Chris, Salon Director of George’s is over the moon to be part of 2009 F.A.M.E Team, “It is truly amazing, I am still in shock,” says Chris, “to be able to demonstrate my ability is a dream come true I am so excited about what the next 12 months will bring.”

As part of the FAME Team, the next year will be a hectic one for Chris, filled with monthly photo shoots with the likes of Goldwell, Andre O’Toole, Beverly C and Desmond Murray, as well as being part of the colour trophy tour for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Fellowship of the Academy of Merit and Excellence will also take Chris on many trips overseas.

Initially Chris was selected from a vast photographic submission, followed by the first session – a gruelling day including a personal five minute interview with the full panel of first round judges, followed by the task of recreating the look of their submitted photographic hairstyle within an hour.

“I am extremely proud of Chris and congratulate him on his appointment to Fellowship of the Academy of Merit and Excellence,” says George Neal, MD and Founder of George’s Hairdressing. “The George’s team never cease to amaze me and this prestigious accolade is further testament to their dedication to provide the ultimate hairdressing experience for our clients.”

The F.A.M.E. Team is selected annually to promote a new generation of bright young hairdressers. Nominated exclusively by Fellowship members, the potential team members undergo a rigorous selection process that includes photographic work, a test of the candidates ability to recreate their photograph under time pressure, a detailed CV, an in-depth interview, a detailed hair assessment and a live demonstration of their hairdressing skills on stage.
A busy and fulfilling year is organised for the F.A.M.E. Team. The schedule includes access to some of the most influential hairdressers working today, education, photo-shoots, PR opportunities, UK and international shows and events including Hair Expo in Sydney, Australia and culminating with a spectacular ‘farewell’ performance on The Fellowship stage at Salon 2009.
The F.A.M.E. Team was created in the 1980’s by the Fellowship of British Hairdressing to promote a ‘new generation’ of UK hairdressing talent. Top hairdressers who started their careers in the F.A.M.E Team include Umberto Giannini, Errol Douglas, Antoinette Beenders, Lisa Shepherd, Carolyn Newman, Paul Merritt, Zoë Irwin… and many more.

The Fellowship for British Hairdressing was established in 1946, originally designed to promote artistic hairdressing with a focus on hairdressing competitions (previous winners include a young Vidal Sassoon). Nowadays the Fellowship has a more modern image and its role has a focus on creativity and training of the finest talent in the industry. Membership to the Fellowship is aimed at the very best stylists, salons and organisations in the UK – the Fellowship’s aim to represent the top 10% of the hairdressing industry.
