Hairdressers from George’s Hairdressing in Leicester are one step closer to realising a lifelong career dream having made it through the Regional Finals and on to the Grand Final of the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy 2008.

Chris Appleton joined thirty-nine teams from across the Midlands region to compete in the L’Oréal Young Colourist Award, part of the prestigious colour trophy award, the world’s longest running most stylish hair competition.

To arrive at the Regional Finals, Chris saw off stiff competition from over 1200 salons with their stunning photographic entry. This is the second time that George’s Hairdressing has entered the prestigious competition and they can’t wait to take their talents to the Grand Final in London.

Participating in a competition of this nature is great news for clients as stylists return to the salon filled with inspiration, ready to pass on their knowledge in the form of fantastic hairdressing.

“The level of talent at this competition is extremely high and I am very proud to be part of it; but reaching the Grand Final is a fantastic opportunity and I will do my best to win.” says Chris Appleton, George’s Hairdressing.

At the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham Chris’s work was judged by some of the most successful names in British hairdressing before a nail-biting wait to see if he made it through to the Grand Final in London. Next, Chris has to create a look from scratch on the 16th May, upon which his expert colour technique and presentation skills will be judged.

Andrew Collinge, a judge at this year’s event explains the secret behind a winning look; “When you’re judging so many entries, there has to be something that stands out and makes a difference. For me this means a fantastic model and a beautifully executed hair cut and colour.”

Only five teams from the event made it through to the Grand Final that is being held in June. The overall winner of the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy will pick up a once-in-a-lifetime prize package which includes a five-star all expenses paid trip to New York and a photo shoot with British style bible Vogue.

“The huge number of entries in this year’s L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy reflects the value our industry places on competitions of this nature,” explains hairdressing guru Charles Worthington. “The pressure and excitement of competing pushes stylists to their highest creative level and the prize package is a dream come true for the winners.”
