George’s Artistic Director, Chris Appleton wins BBC Hairdresser of the year 2009

AHEAD OF THE BEST: CHRIS APPLETON WINS BBC’S YOUNG HAIRDRESSER OF THE YEAR
Chris Appleton of George’s Hairdressing Leicester has triumphed over hundreds of contenders in a nation-wide search for the country’s hottest young hairdresser by winning BBC Three’s, Young Hairdresser of the Year.

Showcasing the very best of young talented professionals, the competition last night culminated in a final which the BBC described as ‘tougher than any day in the salon’.

Under the close scrutiny of celebrity expert judges, Beverly C and Adee Phelan, Chris, along with another four finalists, undertook a series of tough elimination rounds designed to test his skills, knowledge, ability and passion for hairdressing to the max.

“This competition has been an amazing journey,” says Chris, “every stage meant a new challenge but I was determined to prove myself and impress the judges each time. The other finalists were tough competition so to win the final is such an incredible achievement, I’m really excited”.

“Winning the title of ‘BBC Young Hairdresser of the Year’ has been the ‘crowning glory’ on a year which has seen Chris Appleton’s inspirational skill and creativity placed firmly on a world stage. His work with the Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence, known throughout the industry as the F.A.M.E. Team, has seen Chris working the catwalk shows at events such as London Fashion Week, photo shoots and key assignments overseas including Australia.”

Chris Appleton will be appearing at the Clothes Show Live, NEC Birmingham on Sunday 6th and Tuesday 8th December.
